History of MCRH
The Memphis Center for Reproductive Health (MCRH), founded in 1974 by Priscilla Chism. A solid ethical base at the clinic led MCRH to emphasize respect for individual beliefs and to provide patient centered medical care and support. MCRH was the first women's reproductive health clinic in the Mid-South region and the first licensed abortion provider in the state of Tennessee. In the 1970s, MCRH was notable for a succession of innovative services, including free pregnancy testing and counseling specifically focused on the needs of the partners of abortion patients. MCRH also helped establish the first program in the United States to provide counseling, gynecology, and forensics services 24/7 to victims of sexual assault.
