Your Abortion Appointment

What do I need to bring to my appointment for an abortion?

  • A current state issued photo ID that is not expired. We will accept any one of the following:
    • Driver’s License
    • State ID Card
    • Passport
    • Military ID Card
  • Your payment in a money order, VISA, or Mastercard. We cannot accept cash or checks.
                       Surgical abortion: $400.00
                       Medication abortion: $475.00
 

Surgical Abortion Patients: If you want the additional relaxation medication, you will need to bring a driver with you. Your driver must be 18 years or older and have a valid, not expired, drivers license. Your driver must come in with you when you first get to the clinic, show their license, and sign a release form.

Abortion Patients Under 18 years old: You will need to bring,

  • Everything above, plus:
  • Original or certified copy of your birth certificate.
  • One of your parents or guardian, unless you’ve been given a judicial bypass.
  • Parent or guardian’s current state issued photo ID, unless you’ve been given a judicial bypass.
  • Legal guardianship papers, if applicable.

Should I eat before my abortion appointment?
Yes. If you can, please eat a light meal before your appointment.

What do I need to have at home?

  • Maxi pads
  • Heating pad or hot water bottle
  • A thermometer
  • A non-aspirin pain reliever, such as ibuprofen

How long will I be at MCRH?
For a surgical abortion, please plan to be at the clinic for 3 to 4 hours.
For a medication abortion, please plan to be at the clinic for 2 to 3 hours.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?
Each patient may bring one guest with them to their appointment. No children please.
Guests will be asked to wait for you in the front waiting room. Only patients and staff are allowed in clinic areas.

Where do I park?
You can park on either side of McNeil Street.
Please be careful not to block anyone’s driveway. If you block a driveway, you will be towed at your own expense.

Will there be protestors outside of the clinic?
Maybe. They are usually civil. Simply ignore them, pretend to be on your cell phone, or tell them no thank you. They may attempt to make you late for your appointment, so you will have to reschedule. Please be on time for your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, we may need to ask you to reschedule.

 

Your Well Woman Appointment

                                                  

What do I need to bring to my appointment for a well woman exam or STD testing?

  • A current state issued photo ID that is not expired. We will accept any one of the following:
    • Driver’s License
    • State ID Card
    • Passport
    • Military ID Card
  • Your payment in cash, money order, VISA, or Mastercard. We cannot accept checks.
                       New Patients: $140.00
                       Established Patients: $110.00
 

Well Woman Patients ages 13 to 17: You will need to bring your payment as well as identification. We will accept any one the following items for identification:

  • Drivers License or State ID Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Social Security Card
  • Health Insurance Card
  • Recent School Report Card

If I am under 18 years old, do I have to bring my parent with me?

No. In the state of Tennessee, anyone over the age of 13 can consent to reproductive health exams, birth control, and STD testing.

              

How long will I be at MCRH?
You should plan to be here for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

 

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

From the North:
From Austin Peay/Jackson Avenue, Raleigh Springs Mall:
Start out going west on Austin Peay/Jackson Avenue to McLean Street.
Turn left onto McLean Street and continue to Poplar Avenue.
Turn Right onto Poplar Avenue.
Travel approx. ¾ mile.
Turn right onto McNeil Street.  

From Covington Pike:
Start out going south to Summer Avenue. 
Take a right onto Summer Avenue and continue to East Parkway. 
Turn left onto East Parkway and continue to the 2nd stoplight which is Poplar Avenue. 
Turn right onto Poplar Avenue. 
Travel approx. 2 miles.
Turn right onto McNeil Street.

From Millington, Dyersburg:
Start out going south on Highway 51.
Highway 51 becomes Danny Thomas Blvd in Memphis.
Continue on Danny Thomas Blvd. towards Poplar Avenue.
Turn left onto Poplar Avenue
Travel approx. 2 miles.
Turn left onto McNeil Street.

From the South:
From Tunica, Clarksdale, Greenwood:
Start out going north on Highway 61.
Highway 61 turns into Third Street in Memphis.
Continue on Third Street towards Poplar Avenue.
Make a right onto Poplar.
Travel approx. 2 miles.
Turn left onto McNeil Street.

From Highway 51:
Start out going north on Highway 51. 
Highway 51 turns into Elvis Presley Blvd, which turns into Bellevue in Memphis.
Continue on Bellevue towards Union Avenue.
Turn Right onto Union Avenue. 
Continue on Union towards Watkins.
Turn left on Watkins. (Tops BBQ at the corner)
Continue on Watkins to Poplar Avenue.
Turn right on to Poplar Avenue.
Travel less than ½ mile.
Turn left onto McNeil Street.

From Olive Branch, Hernando, Oxford, Grenada:
Start out going north on I-55.
Follow I-55 until it merges into I-240 towards Little Rock.
Take I-240 west towards Little Rock/Downtown.
Take the Union Avenue exit, and go west.
At the first stop light at Pauline, turn right.
Follow to Poplar Avenue, and turn right.
Travel approx. 1 mile.
Turn left on McNeil Street.

From Tupelo, Oxford:
Start out going west on Highway 78 towards Memphis.
Highway 78 turns into Lamar Avenue in Memphis.
Continue on Lamar Avenue to Airways Blvd.
Make a right onto Airways Blvd.
Airways Blvd will turn into East Parkway.
Continue on East Parkway towards Poplar Avenue.
Turn left onto Poplar Avenue.
Travel approx. 2 miles.
Turn right onto McNeil Street.

From the East:
From Corinth, Cordova:
Start out going west on Highway 72.
Highway 72 turns into Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
Continue on Poplar Avenue towards downtown Memphis.
After passing the Overton Park and the Zoo area, continue approx. one mile.
Turn right onto McNeil Street.

From Nashville, Jackson:
Start out going west on I-40.
As you enter Memphis, get in the far left lane marked Sam Cooper Blvd.
Stay on that route.
Sam Cooper will dead end at East Parkway.
 Make a left onto East Parkway and travel towards Poplar Avenue.
Turn right onto Poplar Avenue
Travel approx. 2 miles.
Turn right onto McNeil Street.

From the West:
From Arkansas I-40:
Follow I-40 into the Memphis area.
Take Front Street exit and go right.
Continue to Poplar Avenue and turn left.
Travel for approx. 2 miles
Turn left onto McNeil Street.

From Arkansas I-55:
Follow I-55 into the Memphis area.
Take the Third Street exit and go the left (North).
Continue to Poplar Avenue and turn right.
Continue to McNeil Street and turn left.

From the airport:
Start out going south on Winchester Road.
Follow the signs to I-240.
Take I-240 west towards Little Rock/Downtown.
When the interstate splits, follow I-240 North.
Take the Union Avenue exit, and go west.
At the first stop light at Pauline, turn right.
Follow to Poplar Avenue, and turn right.
Travel approx. 1 mile.
Turn left on McNeil Street.

From the train station:
Start out going north on South Main Street.
Turn right on GE Patterson.
Turn left on 3rd Street.
Turn right on Poplar Avenue.
